A jump rope laid down the first marks across the canvas, creating foundational texture before the piece had language ~ only rhythm. I did not fully know what I was making yet, but I trusted the feeling enough to begin anyway. That is usually how it happens… I follow the thing that feels alive & I move forward, imperfectly.
